I love the way my skin feels smooth, nourished and hydrated after a good salt scrub. I choose grapefruit and clove essential oils because they are known to smooth skin and dissolve fat deposits. And it sure doesn’t hurt that they smell really good together.
My go-to for my kids is lavender. I scrub them up with the lavender salt scrub in a shower before bed and it’s really calming to their system. And who doesn’t love calm and relaxed kids right before bed?!
The benefits of exfoliating with a salt scrub are pretty remarkable for your skin. The grains of the salt will slough off the dead skin cells which will increase circulation and promote regeneration of new and healthy skin cells. The dead skin cells make your skin look dry and flaky. Since salt has antiseptic qualities, when applied to the skin it may help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation along with any itching or pain associated with bacterial-related skin issues.
- Mix 1/4 cup coconut oil and 3/4 cup sea salt. You can get sea salt pretty inexpensively in the bulk section of your local natural health food store.
- Add 5-7 drops each of the essential oils and stir until mixed well. Store in a mason jar. Scrub your body with this in the shower then rinse off and pat dry. I usually don’t even need lotion after using this.
